All Fats are Not Created Equal

Fats can be beneficial to your body helping other nutrients work, including increasing your energy! Your body only needs a small amount of fat, and too much saturated fat (remember the bad fat) could increase cholesterol in your blood. The three important types of fat to consider are:

Saturated Fat: Could be found in food items that are usually solid at room and cold temperatures, such as meats, poultry with the skin, dairy products, and some cooking oils like palm oil. Try to limit your consumption of these items, and you're on your way to lower LDL levels!

Unsaturated Fat: Could be found in food items that are usually liquid at room and cold temperatures, such as nuts, olives, avocados, and fatty fish.

Trans Fat: Also known as trans fatty acids, and is mostly found in foods that are hydrogenated. Trans fats are commonly found in margarine and shortening, so you know what that means...time to cut out cookies, crackers, doughnuts, and breads.

Lastly, check your Nutrition Facts label for trans fat, and always check your ingredients list. Knowledge is Power!
