What is Vida Health?
Vida Health (Vida) is a virtual health program. Vida can help you lose weight and improve your health.
With Vida, you’ll have a dedicated health coach available at no additional cost to you to support eating better, moving more, and developing habits to help you meet other health goals. You’ll also have access to helpful resources like videos, lessons, recipes, and more. For easy progress tracking, you can connect fitness trackers or health devices. (See most common list in “3rd-Party Devices and Apps” below).
Beginning 5/1/26, anyone 18+ that is enrolled in an NMDP medical plan will need to enroll in Vida’s weight loss program for weight loss medications to continue to be covered under the benefit plan. Go to vida.com/nmdp to get started.
Who has access to Vida through NMDP?
All employees and their dependents aged 18+ enrolled in an NMDP BCBSMN medical plan may be eligible for Vida Health at no charge.
Do I have to participate in Vida to have coverage for my weight loss medication?
Yes, you must enroll and participate in Vida each month in order to have your weight loss medications covered under your pharmacy benefit through NMDP. You can begin by enrolling in Vida at vida.com/nmdp and follow the instructions to get started in the Vida program. Each month you must participate in Vida program activities to meet the engagement requirement. Vida will let your pharmacy benefit plan know when you’ve completed the activities required for each month.
What monthly activities are required to ensure my weight loss medication is covered by my NMDP benefits?
Each month, you’ll need to do these things in the Vida app:
- Care team session (Once per month): Meet with your Vida provider by video call or join in a group coaching session or webinar.
- Health metric tracking (Once a week for 3 out of 4 weeks per month): Enter a health metric in the Vida app either manually or through a connected device or app (Apple Health, for example). This could be tracking things like your weight or blood pressure.
- Self-paced learning (Once a week for 2 out of 4 weeks per month): Complete a lesson in the Vida app.
When do I need to engage with Vida for my weight loss medications to remain covered by my NMDP benefits?
Everyone on weight loss medications covered by the NMDP benefit plan must enroll and engage with Vida beginning February 1, 2026 for this medicine to continue to be covered under your NMDP pharmacy benefits. Anyone who does not meet all engagement requirements by May 1, 2026, will be denied when filled at the pharmacy.
Please note: there are a few things you need to do before you meet the Vida engagement criteria, and this can take a few weeks. We recommend starting as early as you can to ensure a smooth transition. The cost of your medicine is based on the NMDP benefit plan. Weight loss medicines may be subject to deductible and coinsurance, and copays may apply.
Will I have to pay for my weight loss medicines if I do not engage with Vida?
Yes. For members 18+ years old, weight loss medication will not be covered by the NMDP Pharmacy benefit plan for anyone who does not meet all engagement requirements. Members will be denied coverage at the pharmacy and will be required to pay for their medicine in full. Why do I need to engage with Vida to have my weight loss medicine covered by my insurance?
Weight loss medicine is most effective when you also change the way you eat and exercise. Vida’s experts can help you change your eating and exercise habits so that your weight loss will be healthy and long-term.
How do I get started?
Go to vida.com/nmdp or download the Vida app from your phone’s app store. Then create an account.
After you have created an account, you will answer a few questions about yourself and your weight loss goals.
Once you are enrolled in the Vida weight loss program, you will be able to choose a care team member who you will work with towards your weight loss goals.
After you have selected your provider, you will be shown the next available appointment times. Choose the best one for you. If you have any trouble finding an appointment time that works, do not hesitate to email support@vida.com.
How do I schedule an appointment with the Vida care team?
When you log into the app, you can schedule an appointment directly through the Vida Home screen.
Can I change care team members if it doesn’t work out with my current one?
To request a change, go to the Home screen in your Vida Health app, tap the gear icon in the upper right, then tap Request New Coach. You’ll complete a brief survey so we can match you with a new coach that’s a good fit for your style and goals.
